SNK Gals’ Fighters was originally released for the Neo Geo Pocket Color handheld gaming console way back in 2000, but since April of this year it can also be purchased for the Nintendo Switch. In typical one-on-one brawler fashion a roster of characters, in this case only female fighters from various SNK franchises, battle it out in cute anime pixel-art. It just happens that one of the in-game settings are the majestic temples of Angkor Wat in northwestern Cambodia that can be seen in either daylight or at sunrise. The symmetry of the temple and the path that leads up to the main entrance of Angkor offer a fitting background for the fighter on a system with limited graphics power, as can be seen in below gameplay video.
Metal Slug is another Neo Geo arcade game that offers gorgeous pixel art of the Angkor temples and Tonle Sap lake.
